REVELATION the R03 Legend Fly Back Magical Watch Dial

 

A world unique chronograph

Thanks to its patented, unique in the world concept, the MAGICAL WATCH DIAL®, the R03 LEGEND FLY BACK has two faces.

Its transparent dial becomes black with a quarter turn of the notched bezel.

It’s therefore not just one but two watches that can be worn on the wrist!

This magical effect is possible thanks to the superposition of two polarising discs whose nanostructures play the role of shutters. Each disc is covered with these nanostructures in the shape of shutter slats which are about 70 nanometers wide (70 billionth of a meter). In order for the discs to play their “on/off” role, they must be placed on top of each other and be able to pivot.

Their nanostructures will either block the light or let it pass through to the movement depending on the rotation of the bezel upon which one of the polarising discs is mounted.

This is the principle which allows the mechanism to appear and reveals the secondary functions, such as the date, of the chronograph.

The R03 LEGEND FLY BACK system, derived from the extremely complex mechanism with a double differential coupled with an Archimedes’ screw of the first REVELATION watch R01 DOUBLE COMPLICATION, was modified to be placed directly inside the bezel of the watch. One of the polarising discs is directly geared by the bezel.

The rotation of the bezel is done manually, at will, by the wearer who decides which level of transparency he desires for the dial to admire the inside of the watch.

The development of the polarizing discs that equip the REVELATION watches is the result of a partnership with the Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology. This successful collaboration continues with the study of new specific discs whose cut-outs have been elaborated according to the axes of the hands of the R03 LEGEND FLY BACK movement.

The movement of the R03 LEGEND FLY BACK was developed by the company Dubois Dépraz. This family business, founded in 1901, produces chronographs since more than a century.

The two companies have worked hand in hand to personalize this automatic chronograph with skeleton bridges.

The hand-fitting heights were engineered to integrate the MAGICAL WATCH DIAL® within the movement. The date system and the oscillating weight of this self-winding movement were designed and developed by REVELATION.  The appearance of this distinctive oscillating weight is reminiscent of the “Manufacture” TOURBILLON MANEGE® movement and is clearly representative of the brand. The same holds true for the bridges of the complication with its interior angles.

The case of the R03 LEGEND FLY BACK houses the MAGICAL WATCH DIAL® and is of an unequalled complexity. It has no less than 71 parts, which makes it a complication in its own right.

The R03 LEGEND FLY BACK is currently available in either titanium or 18kt pink gold with the case middle and back cover in titanium, mounted on a rubber strap with a REVELATION folding clasp.
