Chopard the L.U.C XPS Poinçon de Genève
A Geneva timepiece
for the inauguration of a Geneva boutique
Upon the inauguration of its new boutique on the Rue du Rhône, Geneva, Chopard presented a new interpretation of one of its star models, the L.U.C XPS watch. Made in platinum and featuring a midnight blue dial, this ultra-thin model is produced in a 25-piece limited edition and complies with the criteria of the “Poinçon de Genève”, of which the hallmark is hand-engraved on the back of each watch.
Since 1886, the “Poinçon de Genève” has been guaranteeing an exceptional standard of quality by requiring all manufacturers wishing to stamp it on their timepieces to duly perfect all the parts composing such calibres. It thereby ensures a high level of precision of the products bearing it, while perpetuating manual watchmaking skills. On the occasion of the January 19th reopening of its boutique on Geneva’s Rue du Rhône, Chopard decided to highlight this grand Geneva tradition by means of its new L.U.C XPS Poinçon de Genève watch, issued in a 25-piece limited series and exclusively available from the boutique.
Elegant design and approved quality
To power this new L.U.C XPS, the watchmakers of Chopard Manufacture have equipped it with the in-house made L.U.C Calibre 96.01-L. This choice has enabled them to achieve the feat of accommodating within an ultra-thin case a self-winding movement fitted with two barrels ensuring a 65-hour power reserve and driving central hour and minute hands along with small seconds at 6 o’clock and the date at 3 o’clock.
This platinum timepiece with its pure, elegant lines features a blue sunburst satin-brushed dial bearing the “Poinçon de Genève” logo at 12 o’clock. Its elegance is accentuated by its silver-toned hands echoing the remarkably restrained hour-markers. To further personalise this edition, the case-back of each model has been individually hand-engraved with the “Poinçon de Genève” logo. The L.U.C XPS Poinçon de Genève is certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC). Embodying a subtle blend of aesthetic appeal, noble traditions and technical refinement, this commemorative edition once again symbolises Chopard’s deep-felt attachment to watchmaking tradition.
The resolutely in-house Chopard approach to watchmaking
Chopard is a family-owned company imbued with a strong sense of independence. The various stages involved in making L.U.C watches are conducted within the group’s own production sites in Meyrin and Fleurier. Movement development; design of the finished product; gold casting; stamping and machining of cases, movement parts and bracelets; traditional hand-crafted decorations; surface treatments; polishing; assembly; adjustment and quality control: this entire range of watch production operations is fully mastered in-house by Chopard and applied to the making of each L.U.C watch.
