Beijing, September 20, 2012 – Swiss watch company BALL Watch is proud to unveil BALL for BMW watch collection which is “Engineered for Perfection”.

The aesthetic of the new BALL for BMW watch collection is highly influenced by the lines of BMW cars and includes details that evoke their engines and bodies: the aerodynamic lines of the case are underscored by the slimness of the rim of the case middle, which shears off to form elongated and well defined horns. Here, style is in its purest form, a clever blend of recognition, identification, ergonomics, comfort and an ideal sense of proportion, which is not without evoking the dynamic profile of BMW cars. In the words of Magali Métrailler, the renowned designer heading up this exclusive project, “A line that is lightness personified.”

The alternating polished and satin-finish surfaces further enhance the quality of the work that has gone into the BALL for BMW watch collection. The screwed-in crown is notable for its convex and concave facades recalling certain details of BMW’s ergonomic knobs and ensuring an easy and safe grip. The German luxury brand is therefore the main source of inspiration.

Everything has been conceived and designed in accordance with an overarching respect for the features shared by both BALL and BMW, namely, lightness, performance and technology. No superfluous gadgetry. The design had to be functional and rational.

Especially since this new BALL for BMW watch collection has been designed to a brief based on the high quality and reliability criteria worthy of the highest watchmaking standards. To guarantee supreme performance, all the movements have undergone chronometer certification and incorporate the most important functions of a collection of elegant and sophisticated watches: solo tempo (hour and date), GMT function (second time zone), or a more sophisticated model with a power reserve indicator.

BALL Watch even plans soon to launch a special edition housing its famous mechanical thermometer (TMT) module and an essential chronograph version that will be unashamedly distinguished in appearance.

This new BALL for BMW watch collection is also exceptional in terms of its restrained sportiness incorporating sophisticated technology. BALL Watch has equipped its new BALL for BMW watch collection with the revolutionary patented anti-shock concept: Amortiser®. This marvel of micro-mechanical engineering absorbs lateral impacts and so protects the mechanical movement whenever it is on the wrist. “We were inspired by the architecture of bridges, such as that in San Francisco, and the work accomplished by engineers to limit the shock waves caused by the passage of vehicles,” explains Philippe Antille, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at BALL Watch. “BMW is synonymous with high technology, so we wanted to pay homage to that by utilizing the full scope of our watchmaking expertise,” he added.

Designers, technicians and master watchmakers at the BALL Watch Company worked tirelessly to achieve a level of perfection defined as “Engineered for Perfection.”

Each detail has been the focus of particular attention, such as the production of the dials and their decorative components based on the famous German marque’s instrument dials or even its disk brakes. The fine index and four colors printing on the 2.6 mm BMW logo surface by itself is a work of art, and the uniquely diamond cut metal indexes have been precisely made to house gas tubes. A hint of Inka orange, BMW’s iconic color, has been added to the second hands, and to certain details on the power reserve and GMT counters. For these latter two models, there is also a version with a powerful design based around a DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) case. The anti-reflective sapphire crystal combined with H3 technology ensures optimum legibility. BALL Watch has naturally equipped this new BALL for BMW watch collection with its brand signature technology. The innovative micro-tubes of H3 gas ensure that the dial remains perfectly legible even in total darkness.

This revolutionary Swiss technology requires no external source of energy and its intensity is one hundred times greater than conventional luminescent paint.

All the innovations incorporated into the BALL for BMW watch collection emphasize their connection with the automobile world and should provide these more distinguished and more mechanical timepieces with a new identifiable signature.

The concept has even been pushed as far as the packaging for each watch. Technical and sleek in design, it opens to reveal a BMW digital key.
