2012/08/22 - Roger Dubuis ' iconic Excalibur collection gets a new addition with the Excalibur 42
Its powerful appearance and exceptional mechanical design have given the Excalibur collection a unique status in Haute Horlogerie. Now, with a new automatic movement in an elegant case, the Excalibur 42 line is carrying the legend to new horizons where another generation of watch lovers longs for superb functionality and
controlled audacity.
The Excalibur collection is a perfect example of the Haute Horlogerie and avant-garde spirit that embodies all ROGER DUBUIS, and has become an icon of the brand. Its 45 mm and 36 mm models are joined by the 42 mm version with a new interpretation of the line’s signature codes. The Excalibur 42 watch challenges contemporary notions of elegance, using the power of its design to show its watchmaking pedigree and declare its unique identity.
A shining world of nobility and strength The world of the Warrior that inspired ROGER DUBUIS to create the Excalibur collection is dedicated to nobility and control, with an atmosphere of chivalry and almost choreographed power in which duels and combats are demonstrations of bravery. With a more refined design than the earlier 45 mm version, the Excalibur 42 is the ideal companion for contemporary knights as they confront their daily challenges.
With its audacious designs and its extraordinary mechanisms, the new 42 mm version retains the distinctive features of the Excalibur line: triple strap-attachment horns, an immediately identifiable fluted bezel, and Roman numerals stretched to the limit. It keeps the unique character and the touch of extravagance that sets it apart from all others in the world of Haute Horlogerie. The Excalibur 42 watch is available in three versions: Automatic, Automatic Jewellery and Automatic Precious Dial.
EXCALIBUR 42 - Automatic
The four models of the Excalibur 42 Automatic have an immediate appeal: over-size transfer Roman numerals stand out in the centre of a sunburst satin-finish dial on a silvered or grey background. Yet the watch is not only attractive, it is highly legible. The hours and minutes are read on the principal dial, while the small seconds are displayed in a round counter at 9 o’clock, a signature of the exclusive new movement of the ROGER DUBUIS RD620. The slick case, in steel or pink gold, is enhanced by a silvered or anthracite flange and by pink gold or rhodium-coated appliques. The whole design extends gracefully into the genuine alligator strap, hand-sewn with a folding buckle in steel or pink gold.
EXCALIBUR 42 - Automatic Precious Dial
For those who truly admire beauty, ROGER DUBUIS decided to create special versions of the Excalibur 42 with unique dials featuring precious materials. The strong character and daring lines of the watch are now complemented by the purity of a rare and beautiful mineral with all the emotion that comes with it. The chosen stones - mother-of-pearl, onyx and lapis lazuli - were formed over centuries, making each model subtly different. Among these Excalibur 42 models, the delicate mother-of-pearl balances the raw power of the onyx while the intense blue of the lapis lazuli is an invitation to explore other horizons. These three limited series of 188 pieces immediately stand out. Their pink or white gold cases are complemented by a black strap of hand-sewn, genuine alligator leather, and are fitted with the extraordinary RD622 movement.
EXCALIBUR 42 - Automatic Jewelery
There are several facets to the four Excalibur 42 Automatic Jewellery models: a white or pink gold case, a sunburst satin-finish dial, a bezel that sparkles with 36 diamonds (approx. 2.09 carats) and a folding buckle set with 17 diamonds (approx. 0.12 carats).
The genuine alligator straps are available in various colours to appeal to men and women. As with all ROGER DUBUIS watches, the Excalibur 42 Automatic Jewellery carries the Geneva Seal.
Automatic movements RD620 and RD622
The case of the Excalibur 42 mm model with alternate polished and satin-finished surfaces is a piece of graphic art. It is available in 11 versions, in gold or steel, with or without diamonds, each of them water-resistant to 3 BAR (30 metres). Its movement is the RD620 automatic calibre with COSC certification (Official Swiss Chronometer Control) displaying hours, minutes and small seconds at 9 o’clock. A version without small seconds is also available, fitted with the RD622 calibre. Because ROGER DUBUIS believes that a true work of art is recognised by its smallest details, it has taken finishing to the limits of perfection and the two movements are decorated with “Côtes de Genève” guillochage. They comprise 184 and 179 components, respectively, with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz) and a power reserve of 52 hours. They have been designed, developed, perfected, produced, assembled and adjusted within the Manufacture and both are certified with the Geneva Seal.
Geneva Seal
As with every model by Swiss watchmaker ROGER DUBUIS, the Excalibur 42 meets the latest requirements set by the Geneva Seal. Awarded by the State of Geneva to the rare few who meet the challenge of the Geneva Seal’s strict standards, it’s an official guarantee that the watch’s mechanical movement was made by hand, assembled and adjusted in Geneva. In 2011, the Geneva Seal celebrated its 125th anniversary. Today, this time-honoured certification has evolved to address the entire watch: in addition to the 12 historic criteria relative to the movement, specifications linked to the watch’s casing and performance have been added to the official regulations. For ROGER DUBUIS, the Geneva Seal is one of the fundamental elements in its quest for excellence. There is no doubt as to why ROGER DUBUIS is the only watchmaking manufacture to be 100% certified by the Geneva Seal.
