MECANOGRAPH, the chronograph that visibly vibrates

Eight vibrations a second — the visible performance of the high-precision COSC-certified MECANOGRAPH. Treat yourself to the mesmerizing sight of the perpetually beating balance-wheel with its adjustment screws and the busy action of the escapement lever with its ruby palettes releasing the slow rotation of the train wheels. The entire left half of the dial is open to reveal the relentless minuet of this proprietary movement. Suspended above the precision machinery, the seconds hand adds to the breathtaking three-dimensional effect. The MECANOGRAPH  was created in tribute to Louis Moinet, a leading watch and clockmaker of the 19th century and president of the Paris chronometrical society.

MECANOGRAPH innovates in terms of the technology of self-winding watches, by updating an historical operating system. Within this distinctive and rare mechanism, small and large pawls work together with the automatic winding gear train. In addition to its spectacularly attractive appearance, it offers the advantages of a bidirectional winding system.

High-end mechanism

Calibre LM31 was entirely conceived and crafted by Louis Moinet and Concepto. It is composed of 182 different elements and displays chronometer-worthy precision, as is confirmed by its COSC certificate. Nonetheless, its most remarkable characteristic is the way in which it reveals the entire regulating organ, as well as the escapement and its gear train, highlighted by the anthracite coating on the mainplate and bridges.

One of the main challenges was to insert the seconds hand within this magnificent mechanical ensemble. This has been done by means of a distinctively shaped applique and a double read-off hand, thereby affording a new vision of time.

Viewed from the back, the balance with screws shows a different and original face compared with the front view. It is fitted within a set of anthracite-coloured bridges adorned with “Côtes du Jura”® and enhanced with 26 jewels made using the Verneuil process and presented through openings, as well as by blued steel screws.

To achieve its chronometer-level precision, the manufacture-made movement LM31 vibrates 8 times a second, meaning 28,800 vibrations per hour. It is endowed with a 48-hour power reserve and the rotor is mounted on a high-tech ceramic ball bearing mechanism.

Strong character

This exceptional movement asserts its originality through the strong character of its exterior.

The external minute track as well as a hand-engraved half-dial contribute to forging the elegant spirit of this watch with its strong personality. The time is read off on hands designed by Louis Moinet and nicknamed “Gouttes de Rosée”® (for their dewdrop design).

The case is made either from grade 5 titanium with polished and satin-brushed finishing or from 5N 18K rose gold. The design echoes the Louis Moinet signature codes, meaning an upper six-screw bezel and its unique interchangeable crown tube system for which an invention patent has been filed.

Louis Moinet presents Mecanograph New York and Mecanograph Doha, the first two models from Mecanograph City Limited Editions.

MECANOGRAPH NEW YORK

New York is often considered to be “the capital of the world”. It has a significant impact in all fields, whether world trade, the media, the arts, fashion, showbiz, technology, research or education.

It is the biggest city in the United States of America with more than 8 million inhabitants and is also one of the most cosmopolitan metropolises in the world: nearly half of its inhabitants speak a language other than English at home, 150 different languages are spoken there and it receives 50 million visitors a year.

Hand engraving

Hand engraving combines line engraving with a special, secret technique to produce clearly pronounced embossing. This is important for recreating the atmosphere of New York, with its distinctive urban landscape. The central element is the One World Trade Center, the country’s biggest skyscraper at 541 metres high, spire included. It was chosen because it symbolises New York’s revival. Other emblematic skyscrapers are easy to recognise like the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building, which were both the tallest in the world when built in 1930. The famous Brooklyn Bridge, which dates back to 1883 and spans the East River, is also represented.

Hand engraving takes more than twenty hours of work, with attention particularly devoted to the finishing touches: the depth of the satiny lines, the use of light between matt and shine in harmony with the darker patina once inlaid, which gives the whole a metallic look inspired by the city.

Extraordinary New York meteorite

Bolstered by working with Luc Labenne, the famous meteorite hunter, Louis Moinet presents a watchmaking exclusive with these fragments of the legendary New York meteorite, carefully set into the glossy-blue, star-studded New York City skyline.

This ferrous meteorite was bought in 1965 in the port of New York from the captain of a fishing boat, who we can suppose obtained it from an Inuit. The meteorite is the only one to have been officially given the name New York, as confirmed by the Meteoritical Society.

MECANOGRAPH DOHA

Doha

Doha is the capital city of Qatar and its economic centre. Situated on the Persian Gulf, it is considered to be one of the emerging capitals of the Gulf region, thanks to its breathtaking urban landscape.

The city has become extremely important over the past few years, internationally speaking. It is at the foot of a cliff, a long avenue running parallel to the sea over 7 kilometres that WestBay came into being. A symbol of Qatar’s ambitions, its dynamic architecture is the fruit of the work of the best designers from around the world.

Today, Doha is part of the international architectural scene thanks to unique town planning. The town has tripled since the end of the 1990’s. Its glass buildings with their spectacular metallic structures reflect the aspirations of Qatar.

Hand engraving

Hand engraving combines line engraving with a special, secret technique to create clearly pronounced embossing. This is important for recreating the atmosphere of Doha, with its distinctive urban landscape.

The high urban towers of WestBay are the linchpins of the city, frequently exceeding 50 floors. This highly populated town is one of a kind in the world, and has generated an incredible image typically characteristic of Doha.

The hand engraving takes more than twenty hours of work and attention is particularly devoted to the finishing touches: the depth of the satiny lines, the use of light between matt and shine in harmony with the darker patina once inlaid, which gives the piece its vibrant city look.

Extraordinary meteorite QATAR 001

Bolstered by working with Luc Labenne, the famous meteorite hunter, Louis Moinet presents a watchmaking exclusive with these fragments of the legendary meteorite QATAR 001, finely inlaid into the glossy-dark, star-studded Doha skyline.

QATAR 001 is the one and only meteorite ever found in Qatar, and its official name has been confirmed by the Meteoritical Society. It originated from the asteroid belt situated between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, and travelled more than 260 million kilometres before landing in the area of Jariyan al Batnah.

Luc Labenne, the highly-regarded meteorite hunter of international renown, says of it: “It is a chondrite type H5, very rich in metal and showing visible chondrules – distinctive round grains.”This is a world first and an exclusive model, since no other meteorite has ever been found in Qatar. Louis Moinet has acquired this precious meteorite to turn it into horological art.
