Elegance in a square case
Fully refurbished in 2012 to mark the brand's 180th anniversary, the Longines Museum houses many treasures including a magnificent square timepiece that was the inspiration for the Longines Heritage 1968. Chic and avant-garde, this new model, available in two sizes and two different materials, is a further addition to the brand's Heritage line, and offers a journey through time.
With its daring aesthetic aspect, the Longines Heritage 1968 was inspired by the collections in the Longines Museum. Located at the heart of the Longines head office in St-Imier, the Museum was completely refurbished in 2012 to mark the brand's 180th anniversary. The exhibits are evidence of Longines' rich history, based around its core values and themes, namely elegance, watchmaking tradition, innovation, sport and adventure.
Among the exceptional pieces on view in the Museum, a square timepiece dating from 1968 was the inspiration for this new creation. Available in two sizes – 26 x 26 mm and 33 x 33 mm – and in steel or rose gold, the Longines Heritage 1968 boasts a timeless beauty. The grey brushed dial features black, finely painted Roman numerals and a chapter-ring around the outside. A fine line of black varnish on the minute and hour hands echoes the lines of the numerals, providing a delicate contrast.
While the square case is at first glance more classical, the Longines Heritage 1968 reveals an interesting profile with its slightly bevelled glass that protrudes over the middle. Moreover, the trapezium-shaped date aperture lends the watch a fresh, avant-garde air that contrasts with the more stringent lines of the case. The watch is fitted with a mechanical movement, L595 and the whole is mounted on an elegant black alligator strap.
