“Changing Watch” for
Nile Rodgers’ We Are Family Foundation

New York City, NY (September 11th, 2013) – On Wednesday, September 25th Susan and David Rockefeller and Swiss luxury watchmaker Girard-Perregaux will join forces with Nile Rodgers for the “Changing Watch” event supporting We Are Family Foundation.

The evening, to take place at Cipriani’s 42nd Street, will honor the new generations that will inhabit the earth and that will work to address some of the most critical environmental and social issues in our history. In tune with Girard-Perregaux’s mission to increase awareness for social and environmental sustainability, the event will be a celebration of power to protect what is precious.

“With Girard-Perregaux, our goal is to highlight those around us who have taken upon themselves to raise awareness to save our planet Earth”, said Susan Rockefeller. “Nile’s work with We Are Family Foundation, is the perfect example of the way in which science and creativity can bring people together in the fight for the future”.

“We are very proud to support Susan, David, Nile and We Are Family Foundation“, said Michele Sofisti, CEO of Sowind (Girard-Perregaux and JEANRICHARD). “In the same way that they nurture the young ambassadors of earth, we nurture our young masters to make sure the art of watchmaking is preserved and passed along to future generations”.

That same night, Girard-Perregaux will present two special edition watches designed in collaboration with Susan Rockefeller and named ‘Mission of Mermaids’ (MoM), inspired by Susan’s most recent documentary. The event will also feature an auction to support We Are Family Foundation, a special performance by Nile Rodgers and music by DJ Q-Tip.

“Susan, David and Girard-Perregaux’s continuous efforts to protect our planet inspire me everyday", said Nile Rodgers. “I am honored to be a part of “Changing Watch” to continue raising awareness and funds for their efforts and ours at We Are Family Foundation”.

Girard-Perregaux - Mission of Mermaids special editions

Girard-Perregaux is presenting this special edition designed in collaboration with Susan Rockefeller and named 'Mission of Mermaids' (MOM) upon Susan's most recent documentary. Using the archetype of the mermaid, the 15-minute film is a poetic ode to the sea, as well as a plea for its protection. In 2013, Susan and David Rockefeller established the Protect What is Precious Initiative to make the world a more loving, peaceful and healthy place by protecting family, art and nature.

“People like Susan and David work as guardian angels, always reminding us of the necessity of protecting what we hold precious”, said Michele Sofisti, CEO of Sowind (Girard-Perregaux and JEANRICHARD).

“Girard-Perregaux’s timepieces remind us of how precious time is, and, their support is a great reassurance to us”, said Susan Rockefeller. “We have very limited time to save our oceans. My hope is that Mission of Mermaids will inspire people to reflect on the importance of preserving our environment.”

Girard-Perregaux - Sea Hawk MoM
Hawk: the very word connotes animal elegance, cunning, wisdom — and power.

It is also a reminder of the Girard-Perregaux’s experience in the field of sport watches: in 1880 it began the first volume production of wristwatches, and in the 1940s it launched the first generation of Hawk.

This original Sea Hawk, exclusively designed in collaboration with Susan Rockefeller, is inspired by the green of the nature, which complements the mysterious mermaid representation on the case-back, embodying the wish for ocean protection.

Girard-Perregaux - Small Chronograph MoM
The Girard-Perregaux Small Chronograph is an exceptionally feminine version of a great watchmaking classic. At the heart of this model adorned with diamonds beats the column wheel chronograph movement visible through the open worked dial.

Designed in collaboration with Susan Rockefeller for women who appreciate the beauty of nature and care about protecting our planet, the Small Chronograph MoM is engraved with her motto “Protect what is precious” to raise environmental awareness.
