Rare and instantly recognizable by its oval-shaped case, the Cat's Eye collection is a reference for women who pay keen interest to the delicacy of Haute Horlogerie watches. For the first time, its dial has been given a floral peony theme, created using a special technique.
Historical Swiss watch Manufacture Girard-Perregaux has selected the poetry of an exquisite flower to adorn the dials of its new steel collection: the peony. A generous flower boasting captivating beauty, it tops the various dial versions of this model named the Cat's Eye Bloom.
Cultivated for thousand years and originating in China, it is said that the peony was the first flower to be domesticated by man. It has since remained intimately linked to his destiny. Timeless and perfect for any occasion, its beautifully ruffled petals and its infinite variations of colors have set the tone for decorative arrangements and have served as artists' inspiration. The Ancient Greeks also believed the peony to have healing powers. During the Middle Ages in Europe, Benedictine monks cultivated this flower in the gardens of their monasteries. In showcasing the peony, the Cat's Eye celebrates man's most beloved flower.
The peonies of the Cat's Eye Bloom watch seem to bloom forth from its dial. Fine and fragile, they appear in the form of lace that is overlaid onto a hand-polished beige or natural white (depending on the model) mother-of-pearl dial. To accomplish this, the Manufacture Girard-Perregaux developed a new way of using a well-known method. Each embroidery-like design consists of seven layers of material that are successively applied to create volume and the desired three-dimensional effect. Depending on the model, the second-to-last layer is also given either a gold or silver powder coating to create a shiny effect. Comparable to three-dimensional printing, this process showcases the spirit of discovery that is unique to Girard-Perregaux. The reference to lace is also seen in the "net motif" style background that covers the entire dial case-back.
Made from delicately polished steel, the oval case is set with 64 brilliant-cut diamonds on the bezel and is fitted with a domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Its open case-back reveals the refined interior of the GP03300 mechanical movement with self-winding. Conceived, manufactured and assembled in the Manufacture's workshops, its steel oscillating weight is engraved with the letters "GP" to create a tapestry-like decor with pearlescent bridges and mainplate. It features hour and minute functions and offers 46 hours of power reserve.
Especially fine and delicate, the grey or beige alligator strap is closed by a steel folding buckle.
