Chopard the L.U.C 1937 Classic

A tribute to Chopard’s watchmaking heritage

For Chopard’s 150th anniversary in 2010, the Manufacture launched a limited edition, the L.U.C 1937 model, a mechanical tribute to the company’s proud watchmaking heritage. It now introduces a new interpretation of this timepiece firmly rooted in the tradition of classically timeless watches. Inside the 18-carat rose gold case, framing a satin-brushed silver-toned dial, beats the high-performance Manufacture movement, L.U.C Calibre 01.01-L (L.U.C 1.010).

The history of the House of Chopard, founded in 1860, has been punctuated by a number of decisive moments. 1937 was a pivotal year, since it was then that the founder’s grandson Paul-André Chopard decided to leave the Jura region, where Louis-Ulysse Chopard had set up his original workshop, in order to establish the brand in Geneva. It was in this Swiss canton that Chopard would achieve its subsequent success. In homage to this milestone in its history, Chopard Manufacture first presented in 2010, on the occasion of its 150th anniversary, the L.U.C 1937 Twist model with its pure, restrained lines recalling an important aspect of the brand’s watchmaking heritage. Since then, new steel versions with a crown at 3 o’clock have been presented under the “Classic” title.

A watch radiating timeless elegance
The L.U.C 1937 Classic now returns in an 18-carat rose gold model with a gold bracelet or alligator leather strap, a sunburst satin-brushed silver-toned dial and Dauphine hands personalised for the L.U.C collection. Its subtly redesigned and refined 42 mm-diameter case in 18-carat rose gold features the characteristic profile and details of this collection. Its screw-lock crown at 3 o’clock guarantees water resistance up to 100 metres.

L.U.C Calibre 01.01-L (L.U.C 1.010): precision and performance
This L.U.C 1937 Classic watch beats to the rhythm of Manufacture L.U.C Calibre 01.01-L (L.U.C 1.1010) and its 28,800 vibrations per hour. This mechanical self-winding watch, chronometer-certified by the COSC, is endowed with a 60-hour power reserve. Its construction aimed at ensuring impeccable reliability drives the hours, minutes, central seconds and a window-type date display at 6 o’clock. It also has a stop-seconds function ensuring smooth and accurate time-setting. This precise and efficient calibre is a new landmark in the history of L.U.C movements, since its design enables a significant increase in production volumes and thus further enhances Chopard’s independence.

The resolutely in-house Chopard approach to watchmaking
Chopard is a family-owned company imbued with a strong sense of independence. The various stages involved in making L.U.C watches are conducted within the group’s own production sites in Meyrin and Fleurier. Movement development; design of the finished product; gold casting; stamping and machining of cases, movement parts and bracelets; traditional hand-crafted decorations; surface treatments; polishing; assembly; adjustment and quality control: this entire range of watch production operations is fully mastered in-house by Chopard and applied to the  creationof each L.U.C watch.
