EDOX the Grand Ocean Extreme Sailing Series Special Edition

Edox is the Official Timekeeper
of the Extreme Sailing Series™

Edox, the Jura-based watchmaker situated in les Genevez, has become the official timekeeper of the prestigious Extreme Sailing Series™ championship, consolidating its presence in the sailing world.

Boasting almost 130 years of experience in watchmaking, along with an unbeaten world record for the slimmest calendar watch in the world, Edox has always been linked to the world of water sports. Since the 1961 launch of the Delfin watch, followed in 1965 by the Hydrosub, water-resistant to 500 meters, Edox has produced timepieces characterised by their close affinity to water.

Since 2008, the new Grand Ocean collection has further bolstered Edox's marine connection with watches showcasing an array of sailing-inspired details.

The Extreme Sailing Series™  championship brings together some of the best skippers in the world who in 2013 will compete in eight Acts accross three continents. Each Act lasts four-days with a series of 30 or more short, sharp and intense races lasting 10-15 minutes. The action takes place very close to the shore in the Series' pioneering Stadium Racing format, enabling spectators to enjoy optimum visibility and placing them at the very heart of the top class racing.

The 12-meter long multi-hulls are veritable carbon speed machines, capable of reaching top speeds of almost 65 km/h.

The Extreme Sailing Series™  has attracted more than 1 million spectators, has had more than 1 million views on the official YouTube channel, 33'000 fans on Facebook and a global television audience including live TV broadcases on location and a dedicated seven-part TV series broadcast on over 40 channels accross five continents.

Alexandre Strambini, Edox Managing Director said : "We are delighted to be able to ally Edox with the prestigious Extreme Sailing Series™. We have discovered that we are a strong match, and we share the same philosophy. We are the timekeepers of champions and we are proud to be able to offer the benefit of our experience to the Extreme Sailing Series™".

Remi Duchemin, CEO of Extreme Sailing Series organizers OC Sport said: "In every sport, timekeeping is an essential requirement, and that couldn't be truer of the Stadium Sailing format of the Extreme Sailing Series™ , where precision timing is crucial to running successful racing. Edox are translating their expertise in timekeeping to sailing. They have already drawn inspiration from the Series to create a special edition timepiece and we thrilled to be working with Edox to promote our shared values of technology, engineering, quality and excellence. We are looking forward to developing this relationship over the next three years".

In recognition of this new partnership with the Extreme Sailing Series™ , Edox is launching a special edition Grand Ocean timepiece. This new automatic chronograph is fitted with a sturdy 2892-A2 movement. Measuring a generous 48mm in diameter, the model is water-resistant to 300 meters and features specially designed engraving to celebrate the collaboration.
