OMEGA Celebrates the 40th Anniversary of Apollo 17 with The Last Man on The Moon & Brand Ambassador Captain Eugene Cernan
OMEGA Watches helped honor the crew of Apollo 17 and the 40th anniversary of their historic mission at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Florida with a VIP cocktail reception and dinner on the exact same evening 40 years ago that NASA's three-member crew consisting of Command Module Pilot Ronald Evans, Lunar Module Pilot Harrison Schmitt and Commander Eugene Cernan, also the last man to walk on the moon, successfully lifted off from the lunar surface in the ascent stage of the Lunar Module at 5:55 PM EST. Apollo 17 was the final mission of the United States' Apollo lunar landing program.
Other special guests included Gemini & Apollo astronaut General Thomas Stafford and Apollo astronauts Jim Lovell, Dick Gordon, Senator John Glenn, Alan Bean, Charlie Duke, Walter Cunningham, David Scott and Fred Haise.
OMEGA showcased a unique Speedmaster Exhibit which includes a lunar rover replica, Apollo 10 spacesuit and a rare display of 24 OMEGA Speedmaster Professiobal mission watches with their corresponding insignia patches from Gemini, Apollo and Skylab missions. The exhibit and mission watches will remain on display at the Naval Aviation Museum through 2013. The OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moon watch is the first watch worn on the moon.
During the dinner OMEGA presented Captain Gene Cernan with his very own Apollo 17 Limited Edition OMEGA Speedmaster numbered 1972 of 1972 which also represents the year of the very final Apollo mission and when the last footprints were left on the moon.
Apollo 17 remains the most recent manned moon landing and the most recent crewed flight beyond low Earth orbit.
